Rural Law Enforcement Technology Institute |
The Rural Law Enforcement Technology Center (RULETC) is a specialty center [focus on small and rural law enforcement agencies] in the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC) System which is a program of the United States Department of Justice National Institute of Justice (NIJ). NLECTC is a collection of regional and specialty offices and centers nationwide offering free support, research findings, and technological expertise to help law enforcement personnel perform their duties more safely and efficiently. NLECTC provides information on technology, guidelines and standards for the technologies, objective testing data, and science and engineering advice and support to implement the technologies.
RULETC's mission is to provide responsive solutions and practical benefits to the 16,000 small and rural law enforcement agencies within the United States. Small is defined by the federal government as agencies having less than 50 sworn officers. Assisting RULETC in its mission to work in partnership with the small and rural law enforcement agencies is its Advisory Council which is primarily made up of small and rural Chiefs of Police and Sheriffs from across the nation.
Each year, RULETC conducts the NIJ Rural Law Enforcement Technology Institute (Rural Institute). Below is information regarding the particulars about this year's Rural Institute. Travel, food, and lodging costs are paid by the institute. The cut-off date for accepting applications is August 1, 2008. However, we encourage everyone to apply early as attendance space is limited.
